Shadow is a 2003 reg APHA mare that we intercepted in the fall of 2016. She found an amazing home in the winter where she was used mainly as a trail horse, went on a few camping trips, and did some obstacles. She has come back to us as life circumstances in her adoptive home changed.
She was diagnosed with Osteophytes: This type of spur occurs at the junction of articular cartilage and underlying bone along the margin of the joint. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a term used for describing a series of changes that occur to joints and their cartilage surfaces leading to what we know as arthritis (joint pain). She received a steroid injection on 3/22/22 and was given previcox daily for 6 weeks. Unfortunately, we saw no progress in her lameness and did not feel comfortable riding or adopting her out. She is currently on pasture at her foster home where we hope to be able to manage her pain.
